Getting Exergy out of Montague Marina was interesting.  Another Beneteau 45 was berthed outside us in the slip, so we had to ‘“warp” Exergy across the slip, and then back her out.  We’re building our boat-handling body-of-knowledge every day, along with the team work.

After leaving Montague and heading north in Trincomli Channel, we had some wind, so up with the sails.  Then an extraordinary thing happened……..we had the perfect wind velocity (about 10 kts) from the perfect direction to head straight up Trincomli and into Houston Passage.  For you non-sailors, this happens very, very rarely.  Exergy was getting 8 to 9 kts 45 degrees into the wind and going right up the channel.   A fantastic sail.

After rounding SaltSpring Island, and heading down Houston Passage, we rounded up towards Telegraph Harbour and had another great sail into the mouth of the Harbour.   Then into Thetis Island Marina, another world in itself.

We took the dinghy down off the foredeck with the spinnaker halyard, put on the motor, and explored “The Cut” over to Clam Bay.  Very cool country and water.

Then up to the Thetis Marina bar.  Beers on the deck.  The bartender was “Mindy.”  The bar is owned by a Canadian Military Aviator, so we all decided Garrett should change his call sign from “Dumpster” to “Mindy” (for you young folks, this is due to the Robin Williams show in the 70’s called “Mork and Mindy.”

Finally, another dinghy ride at sunset, and to bed.

On to LadySmith Harbour tomorrow.
